ONE WAY: GEORGE ST - SOUTH ST

I have been discussing with Cheshire East Highways the possibility of introducing a one-way order for the centre of the village.  Vehicles would travel westwards along George St, turning right into South Street and then right again into West Street (there would be no access to West Street from London Road).  This would have the advantage of easing traffic flows at the blind junctions at each end of South Street, as well as potentially allowing some herring-bone style parking to be added on George Street; it would also reduce traffic egress onto the non-roundabout at the bottom of Macclesfield Road.  The cost of £6,000 would be funded by the Local Area Highways Partnership.  Please let me know what you think by filling in the comments section below.

  1. I think a more progressive solution would be one way on London Rd and Chorley Hall Lane. Introduce herringbone parking down one side of London Rd. It would slow traffic through the village, increase parking where it's needed and improve safety over the narrow bridge on CH Lane.

    1. Hi Giles, we are indeed looking at a one-way system for part of Chorley Hall Lane (the section between Greenlands Walk and Carlisle St) which would enable the footpath over the bridge to be widened, as well as some on-street parking to be created adjacent to the playing field. Many thanks for your comment.
