JUNCTION PROTECTION - OAKHURST CHASE

I am pleased to confirm that, following a period of public consultation, parking near to the junction between Oakhurst Chase and Brook Lane will be prohibited. These restrictions are being introduced to improve visibility splays for pedestrians and vehicles exiting from Oakhurst Chase and Brookview Residential Home, onto Brook Lane. During the period of public consultation, which ran from 27th July to 17th August, not a single objection to the proposal was received.

*I am pleased to give an update that this scheme is due for implementation between 18th - 20th September. Traffic signals will be in place, so please allow extra time for your journey*

COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH - AUGUST

Yesterday I joined the team and we spent an hour on Wilmslow Road, standing in the bus stop near Harden Park. We were also joined by the PCSO and over the course of an hour, recorded 77 vehicles exceeding 35mph. Of the total, 22 vehicles were recorded travelling at or above 43mph (the limit is 30mph), whilst the highest recorded speed was 49mph. Our next session will be on Thursday 21st September at 10am; if anyone else would like to volunteer, please let me know via the comments box below. Thanks

17/1977M (NETHERBROOK - CHORLEY HALL LANE)

I am pleased to report that this application was REFUSED at Northern Planning Committee on Wednesday. The application was for the construction of a five-bedroom property, in the garden of the existing dwelling known as "Netherbrook". My fellow committee members agreed that the proposals represented an over development of the site and that the new dwelling would be out of keeping with the character of the area. The application was considered by Northern Planning Committee at my request and had been recommended for APPROVAL by CE planning officers.

WHITEHALL BRIDGE ROUNDABOUT

Over recent days, residents may have noticed surveyors in high visibility jackets on Whitehall Bridge roundabout (near the Merlin). Included in this year's CE Highways capital investment programme, is a proposal to widen the approach to the roundabout (from Wilmslow) and to incorporate a new lane. At this stage, surveyors are just taking preliminary readings, as the scheme is still in its infancy; however, Councillors and members of the public will be consulted on the plans in due course.

CE FLOOD RISK STRATEGY CONSULTATION

CEC are currently developing a Flood Risk Management Strategy to ensure that the Council, the Environment Agency, United Utilities, neighbouring and other authorities work together to protect homes, businesses and other infrastructure from flooding, whilst ensuring all other relevant considerations are taken into account.
The strategy will consider how to better manage flood risk, from better planning of new development to ensuring emergency responders understand which locations are at greatest risk and will be an important tool to help understand and manage flood risk within Cheshire East. It seeks to increase awareness of the flood risk in the Borough, and to encourage better co-operation and communication between organisations involved in flood risk management and the public.
CEC are now seeking the views of residents, groups and businesses on our draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy. The responses provided from this consultation will help shape the final Strategy document, which will be implemented to manage flood risk across the Cheshire East. The consultation will run for 6 weeks from Wednesday 16 August 2017 to Wednesday 27 September 2017.
I would like to encourage all residents to have their say, by responding to the online consultation, or by emailing the Flood Risk Investigation Team at Flood.Investigation@cheshireeast.gov.uk using the words “LFRMSConsultation response” in the subject title.

FESTIVAL HALL CONFERENCE ROOMS

I'm pleased to share photos of the latest progress on the upstairs rooms at the Festival Hall. With the help of a £47,146 grant from WREN Community Action Fund, we have been able to create two additional conference rooms on the first floor, which will become lettable space from September and make a perfect venue for business meetings. To help retain a link to the history of the Festival Hall and surrounding area, we have decided to name these spaces the Belmont Room and the Regal Room.

PLANNED ROADWORKS - AUGUST

Cheshire East Highways have confirmed roadworks at the following locations:

22 Redesmere Drive - replacement lamp column (14th - 16th August)
71 Heyes Lane - United Utilities excavation for new connection (21st - 23rd August)

BROOK LANE - ROAD CLOSURE

I am pleased to report that Grip Fibre surfacing works will be taking place on Brook Lane next week. This is being funded through CE Highway's Capital Investment Programme and will improve the road surface along the full extent of Brook Lane. Following the surfacing works, all linings and other road markings will be refreshed, which is something I have been asking for for several months. Unfortunately, there will be a full closure of Brook Lane (from Wilmslow Road to Knutsford Road) whilst this work is being carried out. This is expected to take place from Monday 7th to Thursday 10th August inclusive.
